Panorama dal Belvedere Quattrocchi sull'isola di Lipari

The Quattrocchi Belvedere in Lipari is one of the finest panoramic viewpoints of the Aeolian Islands, together with Pollara’s Belvedere in Salina and the Great Fossa Crater in Vulcano. Around 4km from Lipari’s town centre, it can be reached on foot as well as with public transport – the company Urso Bus runs a shuttle service from the port to the Belvedere.

Renting a car/scooter is advisable for maximum flexibility and in order to get to the Belvedere in due time to watch the sunset. The Belvedere is set above the beach of Valle Muria and overlooks Punta di Jacopo, Punta del Perciato, the Pietra Lunga (60mt high) and Pietra Menalda (25mt high) crags. Some maintain that the two Faraglioni are the wandering rocks with “boiling surf, under high fiery winds” in Book 12 of Homer’s Odyssey. In the distance, the smoking crater of Vulcano, letting out fumes of boric acid, ammonium chloride and sulfur.

Please be advised that, besides the view, the Belvedere offers little more than a handful of benches and a kiosk.
